Whether you're heading out to the islands for summer vacation, or to the city on another red-eye business trip, it's easy to feel like you and your belongings are safe. Airlines get better about preventing lost luggage, but personal theft is in fact on the rise. A standard luggage tag has all of your information plastered all over it for the world to see, including a dedicated thief to track down you or your belongings later, or just break into your home right as you're leaving for vacation.
Keep your information private while moving through the multitude of wandering eyes at travel ports, and accessed with ease by staff or other caring travelers, while also adding a rad lookin' keychain to your gear that will stand up to anything you can throw at it for years to come.
SPECS:
- Durable: The dual layer, 4 oz Hermann Oak vegetable tanned full-grain leather shell will weather beautifully and withstand all the rigors that come with traveling. Weldbonded and hand burnished edges, 4 steel rivets, and 2 steel grommets all keep the unit in one piece no matter what the conditions.
- Secure: Privatize your personal information (*and more) by storing it on the embedded 888 Byte NTAG216 readable/writeable NFC chip through a simple smart phone app called 'NFC TagWriter by NXP' (more info below). This information can be recalled by anyone with an NFC enabled device (most smartphones) upon physical contact with the tag.
- Convenient: At a size just a little bigger than a standard dog tag, the Travel Tag can be thrown on a keyring, backpack, purse, wallet, or anywhere else you might need it! Also included is a 5" aircraft-grade stainless steel braided cable with a threaded coupling to attach to whatever, whenever you want.
- Personalized: Included are the stamped initials of your choosing, as a means to physically identify with the tag upon traveling.
*NFC chips can be used for a multitude of different things: Initiate phone calls, open up whatever website URL you'd like, GPS coordinates, automatically send text messages, emails, etc. all upon just touching the tag with an NFC enabled device.

HOW TO USE THE NFC TAG:
NFC Android Apps
If you are interested in NFC technology, you most likely have an Android Smart Phone or tablet. In this case, I recommend the App developed by NXP; Very simple to use, totally free- it allows you to write a URL, simple text, or a V-Card contact on your NFC Tags, which will be readable by all NFC devices, with every Operating System. It can also provide information about an NFC Tag's Chip (type of Chip, UID).
Alternatively, there are also the following apps, also free:
If you are looking for an app to make your device do some task (i.e. enable/disable Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, or launch some apps), we recommend:
- Trigger (formerly known as NFC Task Launcher) is perfect for private use of NFC Tags.
If you need to encode a large quantity of NFC Tags, importing data from a CSV (Excel spreadsheet), you may be interested to:
- NFC Bulk Writer, available on Google Play for € 4.99
NFC iOS (iPhone and iPad) Apps
In the Apple Store, you can find a very intuitive and functional application:
- NFC Ideas, free, compatible with iOS 8.1 and later. In order to use the iPhone NFC sensor, you need iOS 11 or later.
Otherwise, you can use the ACR1255-U-J1 NFC reader, which connects via Bluetooth to iPhones or iPad; visit its page for more information.
NFC Windows Phone Apps
In the Windows Phone Store, you'll find the following Apps:
- NFC Tag Creator, free, compatible with Windows 8/8.1/10, allows you to read and write NFC Tags, and to launch apps installed on your Smartphone
- NFC TagWriter, free, compatible with Windows 10, allows you to read and write NFC Tags
- NFC Launchit, free, compatible with Windows 8/8.1, allows you to launch apps installed on your Smartphone
- NFC Interactor, for a fee (1,99 €)
NFC BlackBerry Apps
For BlackBerry, we recommend the app below, which is compatible with BlackBerry Z10, Z30, Porsche Design P9982, Passport and Passport Silver Edition. It's completely free.
NFC Apps for Nokia and Symbian OS
For those Nokia phones which don't run Windows, unfortunately there is not much choice. It seems the only available app is the aforementioned NFC Interactor, which is not free. According to Steve Litchfield, it would be compatible with different models Symbian, including C7 and N9.
NFC Samsung Apps
In the Samsung App Store, there is an Application that is simply called "Tags" which is preinstalled in some models.
